SAVE THE FREEBUTT!

SAVE THE FREEBUTT :  UPDATE 09/07
The Freebutt Statement:
For the latest update on The Freebutt's current situation go to the Save The Freebutt blog for our full statement:
http://savethefreebutt.blogspot.com/2010/07/freebutt-statement-9th-july.html

*We would like to advise people that the Freebutt has not ‘shut down’ the Penthouse Bar above the Freebutt is still open seven days a week between 7:30pm and Midnight (1am Friday/Saturday). Please come in and show your support for the venue. *

SAVE THE FREEBUTT : UPDATE 25/06
The management of The Freebutt would like to announce that following discussions with Environmental Health, there will be an assessment of the situation next week. At this time, the limiter will be reset and a full acoustic survey will be carried out. We are pleased to say that the complainant is willing to allow the independent acoustic specialists ’24 Acoustics’ access to their property for this. Once this assessment has been carried out, we will be able to relay a full & comprehensive update on the future of the venue.

SAVE THE FREEBUTT - WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!
Due to noise issues in our surrounding area, The Freebutt is under threat from possible action from Brighton & Hove Council and Environmental Health that could make it impossible for us to have live bands play here; effectively closing the venue. If this happens then Brighton will lose one its longest running and most iconic venues, as well as causing the loss of jobs for The Freebutt staff.

If you want independent music to stay strong in Brighton please support us by signing a petition to Brighton & Hove Council stressing the importance of The Freebutt to Brighton and the music scene, and why it should be aloud to stay open and solve it's noise problems.
Please go to:http://savethefreebutt.blogspot.com/ for full information on The Freebutt's situation.

Please go to:http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-the-freebutt.html to sign the online petition.

Join the Save The Freebutt Facebook Group.

Please show your support and spread the word!
Thank you,
The Freebutt Team.

BESNARD NAKED LAKIES?

Every now and then I'm reminded I'm dyslexic, and at the moment it usually happens when I read something about The Barenaked Ladies... sorry The Besnard Lakes. Everytime I see that name my brain always goes to Barenaked Ladies first. So if you have the same trouble as me, it's The Besnard Lakes who will be playing here on August 20th, treating you to some fine shoegaze tinged psych-folk that sounds something like this...

and not like this...

and deffinately not like this...

FORMER GHOSTS / PARENTHETICAL GIRLS - MAY 16th
Two of the U.S.A's finest twisted pop exports are heading to the UK on a co-headline jaunt in May and we're very pleased to say they are stopping of in Brighton. Former Ghosts are the new project from Freddy Ruppert of This Song Is a Mess But So Am I, Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu and Nika Roza of Zola Jesus, who's Upset The Rhythm released debut 'Fleurs' was one of 2009 finest albums (and criminally overlooked!!). Parenthetical Girls make fantastically melodramatic pop that is both over the top and touching, with recuring themes of birth, love and death, they are a true treat to see live. Frontman Zac Pennington is a captivating presence on stage, and the band are often raved about by Los Campesinos and were covered by Casiotone For The Painfully Alone on the album 'Etiquette'.
Basically they are both damn good and you should go see them!

XIU XIU PLAY THIS SATURDAY!! AMAZING!!
This Saturday we have XIU XIU playing thier debut Brighton show at the Freebutt and boy are we excited about it! For years they've been making highly individual, compelling and sometimes terrifiying records and now they are coming to town! The new album 'Dear God I Hate Myself' is another gem of dark drama, slick guitars, harrowing electronics and damaged drums. Support comes from Jacob's Stories and Peter Lyons. Miss this and regret it! Ticklets are on sale from the usual places for £9... it's more on the door so go get 'em.
